Elyse Greenberg has been a volunteer with WHS for nearly two
decades, helping primarily with animal care in the adoption centers. On
Christmas Day 2012, Elyse volunteered her time at the Georgia Avenue Adoption
Center. It was there that she spotted a fellow volunteer taking Precious, an
eight-year-old Chihuahua, out for a walk.
“She looked so cute with her little toy sheep in her mouth,” said Elyse. “The adoption center staff said she’d been there for a month. I’ve always wanted to adopt a dog, but it hadn’t been the right time or right match.” Elyse simply could not get Precious out of her mind that day, and so the day after Christmas, she went back and adopted Precious, now named Cleo.
“When she came home with me, she immediately found the most
comfortable spot on the sofa,” said Elyse. “She couldn’t get up and down by
herself, so I covered a box with a piece of carpet, and now she is able to jump
up from the box.” Precious got lots of Christmas gifts. In addition to her new
collar, food, leash, and doggie brush, she also has two big friendly cats for
siblings.
The WHS staff is very grateful to Elyse, not only for her dedicated
volunteer time, but also for giving a loving senior dog a forever home this
holiday season.
