On Oct. 6, 2000, it was love at first sight. When Ashley and Zoe locked eyes, an instant bond was made that would last more than a decade. Zoe was kept chained in her previous owner’s yard and continued to run away until she was surrendered to WHS. Zoe couldn’t have imagined what her future would hold—a loving family who would provide her with the care she had lacked.
For 12 years, Zoe, an Akita/Husky mix, was the world to Ashley and
Patrick Harrison. Zoe faithfully greeted her parents coming home from work each day
and loved the time they spent camping, hiking, running, and plain old snuggling
together. Most remarkably, she helped find their forever family home.
Facing
eviction from their rental, Zoe guided her family on a new route during one of
their walks, leading them to the house they would buy the very next day. Her
housewarming gift for this fantastic find? A huge sunning deck just outside of
her new doggy door.
When Zoe passed away on April 18 at the estimated age of 14, Ashley and Patrick mourned the loss of their first baby. It was bittersweet that Zoe was never able to meet the Harrison’s firstborn son, who joined the family just three weeks later.
Today Zoe’s tail wagging spirit lives on through a generous memorial gift. On the 12th anniversary of Zoe’s adoption, Ashley and Patrick made a donation to WHS “to express our most sincere gratitude for your tireless commitment in raising awareness of animal cruelty, promoting responsible pet ownership, and finding forever homes for amazing pets like our Zoe.”
It’s not every day that we receive an adoption update after 12 years, let alone two such accounts. Click here to read about Missy, a loving German Shepherd also adopted from WHS over a decade ago.
