Alumni Friday: Shogun
“I just wanted to take a second to tell you how incredibly awesome my adopted cat Shogun (her shelter name was Duckster) is.
My boyfriend and I adopted Shogun, a 1-year-old stray, from the New York Avenue adoption center in March 2011. In the adoption application, there's a part that says ‘what are you looking for in a pet?’ I wrote ‘a buddy,’ and that's exactly what this cat has been. Shogun follows me everywhere, sleeps next to me like a teddy bear, and is a complete fiend for cuddles. I think she can hear me coming down the hallway to my apartment, because whenever I open the door, she is sitting there expectantly (and adorably). Whatever my boyfriend and I are doing, Shogun makes sure she's right next to us (or on top of us).
When we adopted Shogun, she was a little shy and quiet. For the first few days we had her, she didn't meow once and spent most of her time hiding in my drawers. Slowly but surely, she got used to us; jumping up on our laps, curling up next to us, and exploring our apartment. It also turns out that she's a very vocal little animal, too… I'm so glad I adopted Shogun, and honestly can't imagine my life without her. Thank you guys!”
