The Washington Humane Society is asking residents of and visitors to the Hyattsville section of Prince George’s County Maryland to be on the lookout for a dog who was recently adopted from our Georgia Avenue shelter and who slipped out of her new home on the same day she was adopted.
Katie, pictured here, has a history of being very timid and very well versed in escape. Katie first ran down Gumwood Dr. in Hyattsville, turned onto Rosemary Lane and disappeared into the woods, her new family running right behind her. Within hours, a team of WHS volunteers were scouring the woods in a desperate attempt to lure her out. Sadly, she was nowhere to be seen. Flyers were created, and the search had begun. Using tips proven to the most effective in finding lost dogs from a group called the “Missing Pet Partnership” large colored “LOST” posters were designed and the area was mapped out using Google Earth. The area that Katie escaped into did not appear to have a water source of any kind so searchers calculated that with the current heat wave she would certainly seek out something to drink. This morning our predictions proved correct; Katie was spotted by a neighbor who had seen the posters in the University Hills Park and quickly contacted WHS. A search again commenced with WHS volunteers, Katie’s family and the kind hearted individual that spotted her earlier. Unfortunately, she had again vanished into the woods.
So tonight, Katie is likely still in and around the park, scared and feeling displaced as she has never been in the area before. WHS was there for her before and we will be there for her again, assisting the new family in any way we can to help Katie get her second chance started the way it should.
If you live in this area or know someone who does, please be on the lookout for Katie. If you see her please call our shelter, which is staffed around the clock at 202-576-6664. Katie is a sweet dog but is very shy of strangers so will not likely allow you to approach. By calling our shelter, you will alert our trained animal care and control staff who can respond and bring Katie back safely.
These are very good information. Glad I found these around here. It's hard roaming around the net. THanks for sharing.
