Attached to a fence by a short chain is how Washington Humane Society Law Enforcement found Rain in November of 2010. She had jumped over the fence and was standing on her back legs on top of a doghouse, to prevent from strangling herself. Rain was in a sorry state when she arrived at WHS. Each of her ribs could be counted and she was very fearful.
As Rain became familiar in her new surroundings, her true colors came out. As a result of the dedicated WHS staff and volunteers as well as her astounding ability to overcome her past, Rain turned out to be a true sweetheart. Her whole body wags every time she sees somebody and she always has a big grin on her face.
Yet the odds were against Rain on her quest for a family to call her own. A four-year-old white pit bull-type dog with special food requirements that requires regular ear cleanings and allergy medication, Rain was passed over for adoption again and again. Rain spent six long months at the shelter. During that time she took part in WHS’s Dog Tags and PACK programs. Through these programs she gained confidence and skills for her to carry over into her new home.
On April 6, 2011 Rain’s special day finally arrived. She walked out the doors of WHS to live in a loving home with a great couple and their daughter. Rain’s new family is working hard to make her as comfortable as possible. She is seeing an allergy specialist to pinpoint her allergy and find the best possible food for her. She got to snuggle in bed last night and is already part of the family. Rain, is finally seeing some sunshine.
Help the Washington Humane Society continue to rescue dogs like Rain and give them new hope. WHS is the only agency in the District of Columbia out there in the streets 24/7 saving animals lives.
