This is great. You really never know who will be right for you. We got our cat as a stray (from a parking lot outside a cheap motel in the south - where shelter animals are put to sleep after 7 days?). Had she been in shelter environment, I'm not sure anyone would have ever seen her beauty. It can be hard to realize in a small cage with so much activity around how great an animal is.
Our momma cat is very quirky (she's totally nuts, let's just put it that way)and doesn't much like other cats, but lives with 3 of them anyway (they were some of her kittens). However, they all do fine. The more affection the mom gets, the happier she is. Sometimes I take her outside with me for a break and she is thrilled.
She isn't always that nice to the kittens, but never harms them. The kittens are through and through sweet and playful, but I would never give the quirky, crazy mom up in a million years. You can tell every day how thankful she is too and that is a nice reward right there.
