Patience & PerserveranceCharity isn’t always nice. In fact, it’s more often than not, considered “competitive”. Remember, friends – there are just so many dollars available to give (or not, as the case has been for the past for years). With that in mind, you/we/they/everyone have/has to remember that the scope and focus of each cause aren’t always myopic. There’s depth and breadth that may not be glaring to the naked nor untrained eye. You just have to be keenly aware, ask the right questions, be inquisitive, listen, learn, and even watch a video or two.
Fashion for Paws benefiting the Washington Humane Society isn’t just about 4-legged beings. It’s about the “human side” of what animals can do for us. They are providing a service that is beyond words. The Washington Humane Society and Fashion for Paws raise money, yes, for thousands of worthy animals who do nothing but love, and want nothing from us but love (good gracious, how can we find humans like this?), but it’s not all about the bark and purr. These little and big beings play an integral part in bettering ourselves.
Through the hardworking staff and volunteers, WHS animals who have not yet found a caring home, are incorporated into WHS/F4P funded programs that focus on inner city kids spending time out in the country and fresh air, the elderly who are alone, women and kids who have been abused, battered, and left homeless (remember, the Dalai Lama came to N Street Village thanks to a partnership with the WHS), our uniformed officers, and as you will see in this video, our military. There’s nothing more humbling than having a relationship with and appreciation for animals. It’s interesting. Personally, I’ve found there’s a lot more thoughtfulness and real caring which authentically emanates from someone who feels deeply for animals than from those who don’t. Watching Life on Discovery has been a huge draw and wake up call for many friends…it’s a beautiful experience to behold.
Please respectfully take the time to watch this piece on the work the WHS does with our soldiers. Thank you and hope to see you at the now sold out Fashion for Paws on April 10th at the Italian Embassy.
