The Washington Humane Society (WHS) would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all of our supporters from across the Washington, DC Metro region and as far away as California who came forward in droves to make donations toward the expensive medical care necessary to save Trooper. The outpouring of support has been phenomenal.
Trooper, who had been thrown in the dumpster to die after “losing” a dog fight with her face swollen and bloodied and her body tightly wrapped and taped in a plastic garbage bag, was rushed by WHS Humane Law Enforcement Officer, Eve Russell, to Friendship Hospital for Animals. For the past twelve days Trooper has remained at Friendship where she has undergone surgery and received 24 hour a day care to nurse her back to health.
Trooper was seen last night by a surgical specialist. Her wounds are healing well and Dr. Walker believes the best course of action is to continue to let them heal gradually on their own. A few of the wounds around her eye were closed last night, allowing the bandaging routine to change; making Trooper more comfortable.
Thanks to the tremendous financial support we have received, we now have the funds necessary to cover Trooper's medical bills. However, we have significantly depleted our Sophie's Fund in the effort.
Sophie’s Fund was created in order to save animals like Trooper, who need expensive medical care in order to receive the second chance at life they deserve. Over the years, this Fund has saved the lives of countless animals.
We will continue to need your support as we now need to replenish this important fund. When that next call for helps comes in and that animal is in need of medical care, we must to be ready and able to provide it. Please continue to help make this possible.
We will continue to post regular updates on Trooper’s recovery and rehabilitation on this blog and let you know how you can continue to help. We just wanted to take this opportunity to say Thank you!
