Today is Pibby's last day of school. This year has been a great adventure. The student's at Hendley Elementary School had different reactions to him. Some of the students who saw him last year said, "Wow! He is huge, he has gotten really big!". The new students were like, "a cat, why didn't you bring a dog?". Pibby greeted the students by walking along the desk. He showed off his new trick, which is to choose what hand the treat is in. If he chooses the wrong hand he has to tap the other hand with his paw. The students really liked it and all wanted to try it.
Then an announcement was made that recess would be outside. The students cheered and Pibby looked confused. The students then apologized to Pibby. Moments later, outside recess was cancelled for the safety of the students. I asked the students how they felt and they said, while shrugging their shoulders, "something is always happening around here." They continue to pet and give Pibby treats. Then it was time for us to leave. The students and the teacher thanked us.
We then drove up the street and around the corner to Draper Elementary School. Pibby, the nickname I gave him, made a real impression on the students and the teachers at Draper Elementary School. Ms. Doren, the social worker, is pictured holding Pibby. She tells him she is going to miss him. I told Ms. Doren that he and I will miss her as well. Ms. Doren said, "Ms. Brown, I thought about you on Saturday. I was driving home in Baltimore and I saw a dog get hit by a car". She said, "I remembered what you said and I called Baltimore County Animal Control after the dog ran into the woods." She said she was an animal lover but learned a lot from Pibb and me. She then reminded me that Draper Elementary School will be closing and the students will be attending different schools in the neighborhood. She and the students thanked Pibb for visiting them one last time at Draper. I told the students that we would be attending community events so they definitely will see us during the summer.
