A long awaited friend....

By Julie Stack, WHS SIT & PACK Volunteer

As I headed out to Hains Point for our Saturday morning volunteer WHS PACK Run (People and Animal Cardio Club), I knew it was very cold outside, and the thought of just getting a Starbucks coffee back in my neighborhood did cross my mind. However, those thoughts quickly passed once I arrived at Hains Point and saw my other PACK running team members waiting with several great Washington Humane Society (WHS) dogs who would be our running companions that day.

Jaisy at WHS
One fantastic WHS Pit Bull Terrier who joined our PACK runs regularly was Jaisy. Jaisy had been available for adoption for literally months at the Georgia Ave. Shelter and had run with the PACK group numerous times.  I couldn't understand how such a sweet dog was being overlooked, but I was really looking forward to seeing her that morning.  But Jaisy wasn't there.  She had been adopted!

It was just Jaisy's luck that while she was our regular running partner on the PACK runs, that an interested couple came by the WHS shelter, who were specifically looking for a Pit Bull Terrier because of their friendly nature and altheticism.  It also came out that they were looking for a good running partner too as the adopters were marathon runners. It is a good thing that Jaisy went on so many pack runs with the WHS running group, because her new family was very interested to know that she was an athletic runner and could easily run with them for about a 3 to 5 mile jog.  I remember running with Jaisy.  It was great that her attributes were highlighted by not only running with the PACK, but also being able to share with her new family.

Jaisy held such a great record running with the group, but now it is time for the next running canidate to take her place in the PACK.  Jaisy at home

Julie,
What a wonderful article! I was curious about Jaisy and the great people who have adopted her and am so happy to hear that she'll still be running (perhaps even more than 3 miles)!
Thanks so much for sharing - Jaisy looks SO happy :)
