Handsome Young Terrier in Search of Forever Home

Ricocollage2 Hi! -

My name is Rico and I’m a young, sweet, and silly Pit Bull mix.  If you come by to see me, I’ll promptly sit (because I was trained to do so thanks to the WHS SIT Program) and stare up at you with my big, sweet eyes and goofy little under-bite.  People are surprised that a dog like me is still at the shelter – I get along well with other dogs, I respond well to correction, and I’m just about housebroken!  And I’m pretty handsome if I do say so myself – under-bite and all, okay?!   I still need some basic training and socialization, but what young dog doesn’t?! Like I said, I’m young so I can get kind of bouncy and excited but it’s obvious that I can be trained and groomed into a well-behaved young man.  Oh, and did I mention I’m pretty good on a leash too? Sometimes I get kind of excited and pull but there’s no doubt I’ll learn to do better if you take the time to train me. And if you try and stop while we’re taking our walk together, I’ll use that as my opportunity to lie down and stretch out in the green grass. That’s how I get you to scratch my belly and play with me!   Also, I ride really well in the car - I like to lie down in the back seat and rest while you drive me around town.  Oh, and I’m really good at entertaining myself – if you give me a toy I’ll just plunk down in my bed and play while you attend to whatever it is you have to attend to.  So… if you think you’re the human for me, please come by and see me – I promise you’ll fall in love with me!

Sincerely,

Rico

P.S. - Like all dogs from the Washington Humane Society, I’m up-to-date on all my vaccinations and I’ll be neutered at our WHS National Capital Area Spay & Neuter Center before I come home with you!  If you’re interested in me or any of my furry friends at the shelter, come by and pay us a visit. I’m at the Georgia Avenue Shelter located at 7319 Georgia Ave., NW Washington, D.C. We are open to the public 12-7pm 7 days a week!

What great photos of Rico, he is so handsome! He loved SIT training, and was so enthusiastic. He always made me laugh during our walks when he wanted his tummy rubs too.

I am really smart and have learned how to heal so quickly. My foster mom keeps telling me that we have to learn each others language so that I know how to tell her when I need to go out and she knows when I am telling her that I need to go out. She laughs and tells her friends that the only reason that I have had accidents in the house is because I just sit by the back door (where I go out to potty) and don't say anything. Well she told me that I can't bark in the house so now I have to learn another way to let her know. I am a puppy again and love to throw my toys around the house and then chase them. My foster mom says that I can just about play fetch all on my own but I really do like it more when she plays with me. All I am looking for is a forever home that will give me the training that my foster has started and lots of play time, oh and I do like my chew toys.
