Happy New Year!
By: Tara
Happy New Year! I have returned from my holiday and more excited than ever to be back in DC and back to work. I had an incredible time in Europe; met so many lovely people and animals too! (Photo below taken inside the Madrid train station in front of the giant green house... I think a green house inside Union Station would be lovely)
I have kicked off my 2008 with a promise to myself to exercise more (Fashion for Paws is now only months away you know), and each morning (yes, I know it is only the 3rd of January) have started waking up extra early to take my dog Dubi for a forty-five minute walk around my neighborhood in Georgetown before heading to the office. I have always known that having a pet is a great motivator to exercise more, and I can see that Dubi has been much happier these past few days with the new routine! This is why the NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo on January 12th and 13th, where we will be holding an adoption event with our WHS Mobile Adoption Center could not come at a more perfect time! I encourage you to stop by the Expo at the DC Convention Center, meet our wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption and say hello to our staff and volunteers! No matter what your New Year's resolution may have been, I can assure you a more meaningful and fulfilling 2008 by spending time with the animals, staff and volunteers of WHS!
On another note, Hot 99.5's morning radio show personality Samy K (photo below),
has just adopted one of our very cute and very tiny shelter residents (see photo of "Axl Rose" below) after working with us on the "12 Stray's of Christmas" promotion, Samy K decided he too wanted to rescue an animal in our care and fell in love with this little guy... can you blame him! Thank you Samy K!
Now, to properly kick-off 2008 I would like to share this video with you, created by our Director of Animal Behavior and Training, Kevin Simpson. Please click HERE to watch the video and join me in honoring the work of WHS, the only open-access shelter in Washington, DC saving homeless, lost, abused and neglected animals!
welcome back! i missed you!
