Just got an email from Eleanor Blackford, Washington Humane Society's Volunteer Program Manager. McGruff the Crime Dog was supposed to lead tomorrow's Walk for the Animals, but as it turns out, McGruff is just a costume (who knew??), and the WHS staffer who'd agreed to act as Crime Dog for the day has had a family emergency. So Eleanor is looking for a new McGruff who's "jovial, not short and ok with wearing a costume". Drop her a line if this sounds like you; she promises you'll have a unique experience! :)
By the way, check out this video from last year's Walk, which was attended by 1,200+ humans and nearly as many dogs. Thanks to Danielle, Kristina, Noel and many, many other Walk participants, this year's event has raised $98,081 so far for Washington Humane Society and the Humane Society of the United States. In addition, lots of sponsors, including Beauty & the Bark and Organic Doggy Kitchen, will be joining us on the National Mall.

Last but not least, John Cane is coming too!! He's a 1-year-old purebred German Shepherd. He's a photo of him at a shelter, but he'd rather be right by your side. Like McGruff, this handsome guy will do all he can to keep you out of trouble!
PS - The Walk was featured in The Express! Thanks, Michael! :)
